Broadway's Wicked will welcome back Oscar nominee Carol Kane in the role of Madame Morrible beginning July 1. Kane steps in for current Morrible Randy Danson, who will play her final performance on June 30. Another citizen of Oz will also depart the blockbuster in late June. Current Boq, F. Michael Haynie plays his final performance on June 23; Michael Wartella takes over the role of the love-struck munchkin beginning June 25.
Kane and Wartella join a company that includes Lindsay Mendez as Elphaba, Katie Rose Clarke as Glinda, Derek Klena as Fiyero, Adam Grupper as The Wizard, Catherine Charlebois as Nessarose and John Schiappa as Dr. Dillamond.
Kane played the role of the evil Madame Morrible on Broadway, in Los Angeles and on tour. Her additional Broadway credits include Harvey, Sly Fox, Ring Around the Bathtub and The Effect of Gamma Rays on Main-in-the-Moon Marigolds. She most recently appeared off-Broadway in Atlantic Theater’s Bette Davis comedy The Lying Lesson. The actress received an Oscar nomination for her role in Hester Street and two Emmy Awards for her featured role in the TV sitcom Taxi. Her additional screen credits include Addams Family Values, Scrooged, The Princess Bride, Annie Hall, Chicago Hope and Dog Day Afternoon.
Wartella will be making his Broadway debut in Wicked. He joins the production directly from the national tour. His other stage credits include the off-Broadway productions of Rent, The Kid and Seussical.
